Make a day trip to Hanging Rock

Hanging Rock is a distinctive geological formation in central Victoria, known by many for its natural beauty and made famous by the mystery novel and movie, ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock.’

With the site only a 20-minute drive from Gisborne, we’ve compiled a few reasons to visit the iconic Hanging Rock this spring.

Firstly, the weather! It’s springtime, and the weather at Hanging Rock is the perfect temperature. It’s not too hot and not too cold, making it the ideal climate for hiking and having a picnic on the grass. If you’re worried about spring showers, the park area has plenty of coverage, and the tracks are well equipped to deal with a light shower.

Secondly, if you’re a flora and fauna enthusiast, Hanging Rock is home to nearly 100 Indigenous plants that come to life in spring. The blooming flowers create a beautiful setting for walking and enjoying a home-packed picnic amongst nature.

Finally, there is an abundance of pram-friendly walking paths, making this the perfect adventure for the whole family.

If you don’t feel like packing a picnic or need a coffee or cold beverage after your hike, the Hanging Rock Café is open from Thursday to Monday.

Gather your activewear and hiking shoes for a fantastic day exploring Hanging Rock!
